Call for Programming Proposals
“Crafternoons”

The Nanaimo Museum is seeking proposals for an ongoing programming series, Crafternoons. These 1-5 hour long programs will take place on Saturday (and possibly some weekday) afternoons through the year and will engage participants in creative, hands-on activities within the museum.

Proposals should outline the activity to be shared, how attendees will participate, length of the session, suggested artist’s fee, and preferred dates. Possible workshops could include but are not limited to: weaving (wool and/or cedar), knitting/crochet/needlework, carving, painting, folk/traditional dance, storytelling, and other themes and traditional practices. Proposals for other topics are encouraged and welcomed.

Workshop participants will pre-register and pay a fee approved by both the Museum and the workshop leader/group. The museum may supply resources such as tables, chairs, AV, etc., to be agreed upon before the session is confirmed.

Nanaimo Museum’s mandate is to engage as many communities as possible through exhibits, events and programming. Our permanent exhibits include information on the Snuneymuxw First Nation, Chinese Canadians, European cultures, as well as industries like mining and timber. The Feature Exhibit from February to August 2019 will be Nanaimo Mysteries, and from September to November 2019 it will be Hockey, a travelling exhibit from the Canadian Museum of History.

Crafternoons in 2018 were well-attended and well-received by the public, with visitors attending from Nanaimo and as far away as Vancouver and Campbell River.
