About the Endowment Fund

Thanks to the generosity of a special Nanaimo Museum member, the Nanaimo Museum established an Endowment Fund in 2008.

In the fall of 2007, Hilda John, long-time member, left a bequest of almost $85,000 for the museum in her will.  It is the single largest personal donation in the museum’s history.

The following year, a matching funds grant from the Vancouver Foundation’s Renaissance Fund doubled the endowment to $200,000.  The interest from this fund goes towards yearly development costs.

Jan Peterson, well-known author of Vancouver Island history, donates the proceeds from her book, A Place in Time, to the Endowment Fund. This generous act was in honour of the museum’s 2008 move to the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.
