Christmas in your classroom!
VIRTUAL Yesteryear Christmas
Cost: $30/ class
Length: Approximately 20 minutes
Journey back through time and experience Christmas a hundred years ago. Treat your class to a fast-paced, pre-recorded virtual tour of the Miner’s Cottage, before and after it’s decorated for the season! Students will learn how miners’ families lived in Nanaimo, and marvel at a candle-lit Christmas tree, homemade ornaments, and wooden toys waiting for Christmas morning. Inquiry questions and an educator background resource provides the history of the cottage and optional extension activities. The video will be available to registered classes from December 1-19, 2024, and can be viewed as many times as desired. Virtual Yesteryear Christmas meets provincial Social Studies curriculum for grades K-3
Christmas Ornament Craft (included)
Students can also make their own holiday ornament as a seasonal craft kit is included in the booking fee. After booking their class, teachers will be notified when their craft kit is available for pick up at the museum, Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00-3:30.
Instructions and pre-cut materials for the Christmas Ornament craft are included, but teachers will need to supply glue and felt-tip pens. We recommend Aleene’s Tacky Glue and Sharpies, but any liquid glue and felt-tip markers should work.
