Hear about its murky origins, the competition to find the ultimate Nanaimo Bar recipe, its rise to fame, and the controversies that have made headlines in the past few years.
The end of this video prompts a class discussion on the significance of family recipes.
The class activity is a recipe round up, where each student collects one special recipe from their family, heritage, or media that they love, and compile them into a class cookbook. A recipe for Nanaimo Bars is include in the activity materials, with the option for classes to make their own together, with or without nuts.
