Start your visit with the large satellite map of Nanaimo to see the ocean, lakes and mountains that surround the community. The exhibit features stories and artifacts connected to arts, sports, recreation and community celebrations in Nanaimo.

Exhibit highlights include the Nanaimo Bar and World Championship Bathtub Race, which have helped the city gain an international reputation. The annual Bathtub Race started as a quirky event to celebrate the centennial of Canadian confederation in 1967.

The Adopt an Artifact displays in this area showcases the important role community members have played in preserving Nanaimo’s heritage. Adopting an artifact helps ensure our past has a future and shows that you are a supporter of local heritage.
