DESCRIPTION:Hey kids! Looking for fun activities all summer long? Then join
  the Nanaimo Museum Summer Club! \nWith a fascinating new theme every mon
 th you will be exploring the gallery\, handling artifacts\, and learning t
 he story behind the artifacts.  \n\nEach month a new special button will 
 be revealed - collect them all by visiting the gallery in June\, July\, an
 d August. \n\nFun for all ages\, Nanaimo Museum Summer Club is included w
 ith admission by donation.  \n\nThere are three buttons to collect\, mak
 e sure to visit the museum from August 30th to September 5th for Last Chan
 ce Week! All three touch stations and hunts will be available so club memb
 ers can collect any pins they are missing. \nJune: Chinese Canadians on V

 he museum from June 1st to 30th to learn about Chinese Canadians on Vancou
 ver Island and to join the Nanaimo Museum Summer Club! \n\nOpen Tuesday t
 o Saturday from 10am to 4pm for the month of June. \n\nGet your hands on 
 archival material at the touch station and complete your visit with a scav
 enger hunt in the permanent exhibit. \n\nWhen you complete the scavenger 
 hunt you will be an official member of the Nanaimo Museum Summer Club and 
 earn your limited-edition button! Check out the design below. \n\n\n\nThi
 s month's design showcases the dragon head that was displayed on the front
  of the Wong brothers’ boat for the World Championship Bathtub Race in 
 1968.  \n\n“The eyes had light bulbs that were connected to a car batte
 ry and would flash. Smoke shot out of its nostrils.” - Chuck Wong (1919-
 2003)   \n\nThe Wong brothers opened the Diners Rendezvous Restaurant in
  1953 and it operated until 2000. Check out menus from the Diners Rendezv
 ous in the touch station. \n\nThere are three buttons to collect\, so vis

  Noisy Descendent\nJuly 1st to September 5th\n[bg_collapse view="link" col

 arn about the experience of Chinese Canadians in BC’s past through Dr. I
 mogene Lim’s family story. From her grandfather's arrival in Victoria in
  1890 and the impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act on her father\, to why D
 r. Lim calls herself a “noisy descendant”. Dr. Lim’s story will be o
 n display in the gallery\, admission by donation.\n\nDr. Lim has collected
  hundreds of menus from Chinese restaurants in Canada and the United State
 s to remind people that Chinese Canadians established themselves early on 
 in communities—with the restaurant becoming a place of memories and stor
 ies.  \n\nDr. Lim's menu collection has been digitized and is available 
 online through the VIU Library Special Collections. Menus from the Diners 
 Rendezvous in Nanaimo will be available at the program touch station until
  September 5th. \n\n[/bg_collapse]\nJuly: Coal Mining in Nanaimo \nJuly

 to 31st to learn about Coal Mining in Nanaimo and to join the Nanaimo Muse
 um Summer Club!  \n\nGet your hands on mining artifacts at the touch sta
 tion and complete your visit with a scavenger hunt in the Coal Mine exhibi
 t by lantern light.  \n\nWhen you complete the scavenger hunt you will b
 e an official member of the Nanaimo Museum Summer Club and earn your limit

 nVisit with a museum host who will show you some tools used by Snuneymuxw 
 and other Coast Salish people at the touch station and take a scavenger hu
 nt-style tour of the gallery that highlights Snuneymuxw in the past and pr
 esent\, including Xulsimalt Harry Manson who is in the Sports Hall of Fame
  and the new display of William A. White’s regalia. \n\nWhen you comple
 te the scavenger hunt you will be an official member of the Nanaimo Museum
