On Saturday\, February 20 from 12:30-3:30pm\, Joy will lead p articipants in creating a finger-woven key ring or brooch.\nParticipants w ill learn finger weaving techniques while exploring colour placement to cr eate a pattern. Participants can expect to complete or nearly complete the ir project by the end of the workshop.\nFinger weaving is a traditional M étis art which has been used to create their iconic Métis sashes\, also known as ceintures flêchées. Looms were not readily available in the ear ly days of Métis history\, so finger weaving these sashes and other items became the standard. The colours and patterns in Métis sashes often sign ify family connections\, much like Scottish Tartans.\nAll materials will b e provided. No experience necessary. This workshop is open to everyone\; i t is not restricted to participants of Métis heritage.\nAges: 15+\nTicket s: $45 per person\, and pre-registration is required. Tickets are non-refu ndable and non-transferable to other dates or programs. A minimum of 10 gu ests is required for this program to proceed.\n \;\nJoy Bremner\, Mét is Knowledge Keeper / Elder\n\n\nJoy was born in Prince Albert\, Saskatche wan\, both of her parents Métis. The Métis Culture has been with her thr oughout her life\, as well as many First Nations friends while living acro ss Manitoba\, Saskatchewan\, Alberta\, the Yukon and then settling on Vanc ouver Island.\n\nMentored by numerous Métis Old Ones (Elders) within many communities\, Joy has shared her Métis cultural knowledge at Gatherings\ , workshops\, and educational institutes with Métis youth and the general public. Joy practices a wide range of activities\, including beading\, po rcupine quill work\, moose hair tufting\, leather-work\, traditional foods \, medicines\, weaving\, and the list goes on.\n\n \;\nIMPORTANT PAYME NT INFORMATION:\nAlthough online payment is made through PayPal\, a PayPal account is not required\, only a credit card or debit card.
