On Satu rday\, February 20 from 12:30-3:30pm\, Joy will lead participants in creat ing a finger-woven key ring or brooch.\nParticipants will learn finger wea ving techniques while exploring colour placement to create a pattern. Part icipants can expect to complete or nearly complete their project by the en d of the workshop.\nFinger weaving is a traditional Métis art which has b een used to create their iconic Métis sashes\, also known as ceintures fl êchées. Looms were not readily available in the early days of Métis his tory\, so finger weaving these sashes and other items became the standard. The colours and patterns in Métis sashes often signify family connection s\, much like Scottish Tartans.\nAll materials will be provided. No experi ence necessary.\nAges: 15+\nTickets: $45 per person\, and pre-registration is required. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable to other dat es or programs. A minimum of 10 guests is required for this program to pro ceed.\n \;\nJoy Bremner\, Métis Knowledge Keeper / Elder\n\n\nJoy was born in Prince Albert\, Saskatchewan\, both of her parents Métis. The M étis Culture has been with her throughout her life\, as well as many Firs t Nations friends while living across Manitoba\, Saskatchewan\, Alberta\, the Yukon and then settling on Vancouver Island.\n\nMentored by numerous M étis Old Ones (Elders) within many communities\, Joy has shared her Méti s cultural knowledge at Gatherings\, workshops\, and educational institute s with Métis youth and the general public. Joy practices a wide range of activities\, including beading\, porcupine quill work\, moose hair tufting \, leather-work\, traditional foods\, medicines\, weaving\, and the list g oes on.\n\n \;\nIMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION:\nAlthough online paymen t is made through PayPal\, a PayPal account is not required\, only a credi t card or debit card.
