DESCRIPTION:Join Chepximiya Siyam Chief Janice George and Skwtsimeltxw Budd
 y Joseph in a full day Crafternoon session on Coast Salish Weaving at Nana
 imo Museum.\n\nCoast Salish blankets were traditionally woven for special 
 ceremonies and events\, steeped in positive thoughts and prayers for the r
 ecipient. The knowledge of this traditional practice was lost in the wake 
 of residential schools. Janice and Buddy learned from Susan Pavel\, a mast
 er weaver in Washington State\, and were able to teach others in time to w
 eave blankets for the Squamish representatives to wear in the Opening Cere
 monies at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.\n\nJanice and Buddy hav
 e embraced their roles as teachers\, having opened L'hen Awtxw Weaving Hou
 se in Squamish Territory in Vancouver\, and teaching First Nations and non
 -Indigenous people how to weave since 2003.\n\nIn this 6-hour session\, pa
 rticipants will learn about the history and traditions of Coast Salish wea
 ving\, techniques\, and Janice and Buddy's personal and family weaving sto
 ries. Participants will create a weaving of their own to take home at the 
 end of the day.\n\nAges: 14+\n\n$150 per person. Ticket price includes all
  materials\, a light lunch\, and admission to the museum. 14 participants 
 maximum.\n\nAlthough online payment is made through PayPal\, a PayPal acco
 unt is not required\, only a credit card or debit card.  Please note that
  there will be no physical ticket issued. Your spot in this workshop is co
 nfirmed once you have the PayPal transaction confirmation. Registration ca
 n also be made over the phone or in person.
