SUMMARY:Chado: The Way of Tea - Crafternoon Series
DESCRIPTION:Chado\, or Tea Ceremony\, is a traditional practice in Japanese
  culture. It originated as a Zen practice in the 16th century\, and contin
 ues to this day. Chado includes drinking matcha green tea\, made from the 
 ground leaves of the camellia sinensis tea plant. When whisked into hot wa
 ter\, it becomes a frothy\, creamy drink.\n\nIn this Crafternoon session\,
  Asuka Naomi\, a Japanese Canadian in Nanaimo\, will teach participants ab
 out the Chado ceremony. She will demonstrate a Japanese tea ceremony in th
 e Ryu-rei style (at a table and seated on chairs) and share her knowledge 
 of matcha green tea and Chado manners. Naomi and her assistants will serve
  guests bowls of matcha and Japanese sweets\, and guests can put their eti
 quette into practice\, enjoying the peaceful ceremony in small groups.\n\n
 Ages: 12 +\n\n$15 per person. Ticket price includes all materials and admi
 ssion to the museum. 30 participants maximum.\n\nLimited Member ticket sal
 es open April 15th. General public sales open April 18th.\n\nAlthough onli
 ne payment is made through PayPal\, a PayPal account is not required\, onl
 y a credit card or debit card.  Please note that there will be no physica
 l ticket issued. Your spot in this workshop is confirmed once you have the
  PayPal transaction confirmation. Registration can also be made over the p
 hone or in person.\nAsuka Naomi\nBorn and raised in Japan\, Naomi experien
 ced her first Chado at 7 years old. Since then\, she has participated in a
 nd enjoyed many tea ceremonies. In 2011\, she moved to Nanaimo from Japan.
  She noticed there was no place to enjoy a traditional Japanese tea ceremo
 ny with kimono in Nanaimo.\n\nIn 2016\, she opened a Japanese tea-room in 
 Nanaimo and now shares her tea ceremony experiences and knowledge\, to enj
 oy Japanese culture with many people.\n\nNaomi’s tea-room holds tea sess
 ions every month\, and she also organizes tea ceremony outreach sessions.\
 n\n&nbsp\;\n\nMatcha tea and samples generously supplied by Tea Desire Cou
 ntry Club Centre.
