Lynne Stonier-Newman Book Signing
Saturday, September 11, 2010 - 1p.m. - donation
Lynne will speak about her latest book about Peter O'Reilly, The Rise of A Reluctant Immigrant.  Peter O'Reilly helped to shape B.C. after immigrating to Canada from Ireland in 1859.  Chief gold commissioner for the Cariboo, Kootenays and Omineca, he became a powerful county court judge and a was appointed to Canada's B.C. Indian Reserve Lands commissioner - and many of his decisions continue to be challenged in the courts to this day.  For forty years, he travelled B.C.'s vast wilderness, spending only winters with Carolyn Trutch O'Reilly, his cherished wife, and sharing the dinner tables of Victoria's upper society.  O'Reilly's adventures and challenges illuminate the history of B.C.'s formative years.  (www.touchwoodeditions.com) For more information contact Bobbi Williamson at the Nanaimo Museum 250.753.1821 or email program@nanaimomuseum.ca.
