Lantern Walking Tours ($15/person) 6:30pm – 8:00pm:
Haunted Nanaimo (SOLD OUT):
Unexplained phenomena, bloody apparitions, and uncanny spiritualists await at some of Nanaimo’s iconic historic landmarks. The new Haunted Nanaimo Lantern Tour takes participants on an outdoor (and in some cases indoor) path through downtown to share a few of the ghostly encounters experienced by locals through history. This event has Sold Out!
Crime & Punishment
Fatal love triangles, muddled motives, and severe consequences all play a part in the murderous stories told on the new Crime & Punishment Lantern Tour this October. Guests will join a Nanaimo Museum tour guide on a walk through downtown to sites related to crimes and punishments in Nanaimo at the turn of the century.
Presentation ($10/person) 6:30pm – 7:30pm:
The Brother XII Presentation in the gallery looks at the history of Edward Wilson and his rise and fall as Brother XII from a spiritual teacher to high-profile court cases, scandals and conspiracy theories. His followers’ stories, including Madame Zee and respected astrologer Coulson Turnbull, illuminate this dark chapter in Nanaimo’s history. Brother XII is one of the most frequently asked about figures from Nanaimo’s past. This presentation explores one of the most infamous and controversial figures in Canadian history. Aimee Greenaway will lead the presentation of stories, photos and artifacts.
Other Spooky October Fun:
In the spirit of Halloween, the museum’s coal mine exhibit will be haunted on Saturday, October 26th from 10:00am – 3:00pm, with a Sensory Friendly hour between 10:00am and 11:00am. Enter the dark, dangerous underworld of Victorian London in this year’s Murder Alley Haunted Coal Mine! Costumed (or not!) visitors ages 5-95 will encounter shady characters, bloody brick walls and plenty of scares! Afterward, try to find all of the rats who’ve infested the gallery in 2019’s Halloween Hunt, available through October.
