Basics of Cedar Weaving March 23rd – Crafternoon Series
Date(s) - 23/03/2019
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Join Dave Bodaly for the first Crafternoon of 2019, on Saturday, March 23, from 1-2:30pm.
Have you ever wanted to try cedar weaving? This is the session for you! Participants will weave a four-strand red cedar bracelet, under the guidance of Dave Bodaly, member of the Johnny family of Snuneymuxw First Nation.
According to tradition, the first weaving a person makes must be given away. In this workshop, participants will work in pairs, and will make a bracelet for the person across the table from them. Each participant will leave with a completed bracelet, which will dry to the wrist size of the wearer.
Dave will share stories about the cedar while participants weave, and complete a weaving of his own through the session.
“My name is Dave Bodaly, I am from the Johnny family of Snuneymuxw First Nation. I have worked as a cedar weaver for 12 years now, sharing the art of cedar weaving is what I have always enjoyed, no matter how few or how many people, I am willing to teach anyone willing to learn. I have learned from my elders and teachers and I enjoy sharing stories about the cedar and the importance to our First Nations culture.”
Tickets cost $20 per person. Ticket price includes all materials and admission to the gallery.
